修身篇

　　On Self-Cultivation

　　(一)不患莫己知，求為可知也。

　　Don`t worry when others don`t appreciate you,but you should strive to make achievements.

　　孔子說：“不怕別人不知道自己，只求自己作出成績(jī)來。”

　　(二)君子求諸己，小人求諸人。

　　A gentleman sets strict demands on himself while a petty man sets strict demands on others.

　　孔子說：“君子嚴(yán)格要求自己，小人苛刻要求別人。”

　　(三)君子成人之美，不成人之惡。

　　A gentleman helps others fulfill good deeds and never helps them in bad deeds.

　　孔子說：“君子成全別人的好事，不去促成別人的壞事。”

　　(四)君子坦蕩蕩，小人長(zhǎng)戚戚。

　　A gentleman is always broad-minded while a petty man is always full of anxiety.

　　孔子說：“君子心胸坦蕩故待人接物猶如行走在平坦大道上，安祥而舒泰;小人心思常為物役，患得患失，故常懷憂慮之心。”

　　(五)過而不改，是謂過矣。

　　Not to correct the mistake one has made is to err indeed.

　　孔子說：“有過錯(cuò)不改正，才是真錯(cuò)。”

　　(六)小不忍，則亂大謀。

　　Lack of patience in small matters will bring destruction to overall plans.

　　孔子說：“小事上不能忍耐，就會(huì)壞了大事。”這里的小事包括小忿怒和小仁小惠兩個(gè)意思，即婦人之仁不能忍于愛;匹夫之勇，不能忍于忿，皆能亂大謀。

　　(七)人無遠(yuǎn)慮，必有近憂。

　　Worries will soon appear if one gives no thought to a long-term plan.

　　孔子說：“一個(gè)人如果沒有長(zhǎng)遠(yuǎn)打算，憂患很快就會(huì)出現(xiàn)。”

　　(八)工欲善其事，必先利其器。

　　A craftsman must prepare his tools beforehand in order to do his work well.

　　孔子說：“工匠要想做好他的工作，一定要先準(zhǔn)備好他的工具。”這是一種比喻，即如想做好一件事，必須先具備做這件事的先決條件才能事半功倍。

　　處世篇

　　On Human Relations

　　(一)君子欲訥于言而敏于行。

　　A gentleman should be careful in speech and quick to act.

　　孔子說：“君子應(yīng)該說話謹(jǐn)慎，做事勤勞敏捷。”

　　(二)道聽而涂說，德之棄也。

　　To indulge in gossip and spreading rumours is to abandon virtue.

　　孔子說：“熱衷于傳播小道消息的行為，是對(duì)道德的背棄。”

　　(三)己所不欲，勿施于人。

　　Do not impose upon others what you do not desire yourself.

　　孔子說：“自己不想做的事情，就不要加給別人。”

　　(四)以直報(bào)怨，以德報(bào)德。

　　Repay resentment with fairness and justice,and repay virtue with virtue.

　　孔子說：“用公平正直來對(duì)待怨恨，以恩德來報(bào)答恩德。”

　　(五)聽其言而觀其行

　　I want to see what people do before I trust what they say.

　　孔子說：“聽了他的話還要觀察他的行為才肯相信。”
