Function and Application of Descriptive Translation Studies 1 Introduction The intention of this study is to explore possible advantages of Descriptive Translation Studies as in its application in translation practice and translation analysis. Since early 20th century, translation studies gradually broke away from the marginal status within other related disciplines and established itself as an empirical science. From then on, schools of thought have kept coming out and each claims its legitimacy for existence. Among these schools is Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS). 2 Outline 2.1 Development and major concepts of DTS In this part I will describe Holms’ basic map of DTS and the relationship between function, process and product. Function and Application of Descriptive Translation Studies
1 Introduction

English Idioms and Their Cohesive Function

English idioms are an important part of the English vocabulary. The general tendencies of presentday English are towards more idiomatic usages. Halliday and Hason （1976） pointed out that there are three functions of English idioms （ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function）。 Another scholar, Fernando C. （1996）， also made valuable contributions to the understanding of idiomatic expression_r of coherent text, and in the creation of stylistic effects.
Chinese linguists like Hu Zhuanglin （1994, 1996）， Zhu Yongsheng （1995, 1996, 1997） and Zhang Delu （1994） mainly made contributions to the study of textual cohesion.

This paper is firstly intended to define English idioms and analyze the features of them. It then explores the cohesive function after careful analysis and discussion, attempting to arouse the concern of using idioms appropriately and help readers make full use of the cohesive function for communicating more concisely and idiomatically, thus more effectively.

English, especially English reading and writing, has become an effective means to get access to all kinds of information and an indispensable means of international communication. As a matter of fact, English writing are vital to our individual development because it has been applied more and more in both our English study and future work.
However, according to my personal writing experience and teaching practice experience in Bobai Middle school, I found that the students EFL writing ability is not so encouraging and satisfactory in senior high schools though they have learned English for several years in primary and middle school. Not a few of them do very poor in applying English to express their ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc. in EFL writing. Some of them even cannot produce a single correct sentence in their compositions. Those students may actually have something to write, but they just cannot express it correctly and appropriately in English. On one hand, they do not grasp sufficient active vocabularies to express themselves. On the other hand, they lack sense of sentence structure and composition structure to develop their composition. The last but not least, they dont know how to apply the materials they have read to improve their writing ability though they have read a lot.
Therefore, its necessary and urgent to find an effective and practical approach to solve the poor performance in the students EFL writing and improve their writing ability. Many scholars have proved that there is a strong relationship between reading and writing. From reading to writing can effectively enlarge the students amount of vocabulary, cultivate their sense of sentence structure and composition structure, enrich their writing materials and promote their ability in using words and sentences. Therefore, from reading to writing approach is highly advocated in improving EFL writing in senior high schools.

1.研究目標(biāo)：
According to the New Curriculum Standards for senior high schools, listening, speaking, reading and writing are four basic skills and requirements for the students. However, the students EFL writing ability in senior high schools is not so pleasant and encouraging. The prevalent EFL writing approaches (the product approach and the process approach) in senior high schools do not do much good to improve students writing ability. This study aims to compare these two approaches with from reading to writing approach and show the advantages of applying from reading to writing approach in senior high schools.
From reading to writing approach advocates that writing should be integrated with reading so that the students can enlarge their vocabulary in reading, learn how to use language appropriately, how to apply their background knowledge, how to arrange the sentences, how to organize the composition, how to achieve coherence and unity and how to activate their mind when writing. In this way, the students can improve their writing ability effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the thesis tries to analyze the present reading and writing situation in senior high schools, expound the nature of reading and writing, discuss the necessity and feasibility of reading to writing approach, show the application of reading to writing approach in EFL writing practice and prove the effectiveness and practicality of reading and writing approach.

During the last few months before graduation, I am responsible for the work as an administrative assistant. I have been familiar with copy, fax, document processing and other assistant works. Most documents have different degrees of confidentiality, and various assistants often close to the leader, see some important documents and participate in a number of important meetings, so the assistants should be notice own behaviors in public activities and act properly, konwing exactly what they can speak or not. Accuracy is the requirement of work quality. The accuracy of administrative management refers to reflecting the policy, informing the intention of the leader and doing the work correctly, acting properly and expressing clearly, which guarantee the accuracy of the leader’s work in some degree. The secretarial management accuracy involvs many aspects, briefly speaking, it includes accurate documenting, proper acting, ture information and cautious ideas. And in order to reach these standards, we must be seriouly and carefully instead of being neglectly and casually. For example, when doing documenting, we should ensure the quality of the file with accurate words, real material, serious copy and careful proofread to avoid any mistakes. The process of internship is filled with joy of harvest and also regret.
